Our exclusive list contains the largest and most important German pension funds (> 130) and pension funds (> 30) that invest in real estate, investments (e.g. private equity) and other capital investments that are as stable in value as possible over the long term.

Pension funds are of particular interest to the following providers of capital investments,  who are looking for such long-term investors, e.g.

  • Providers of government and corporate bonds (Government & Corporate Bonds),
  • Providers of listed investments (equities),
  • Fund providers (Collective Investments Undertakings), including equity, debt, asset allocation, real estate, alternative, private equity and infrastructure funds
  • Larger project developers.

Globally, the largest markets for pension assets are the US, Japan, the UK and Canada.

Then comes the Netherlands with almost 17 million inhabitants and around 1.6 trillion Eur. assets ahead of Germany with approx. 0.23  Bio. EUR in their pension schemes. They hold around 60% of this in funds.

In addition to support funds and direct insurance and pension commitments, pension funds and pension funds are approved in Germany as five possible ways of implementing company pension schemes (bAV). The bAV is a benefit that the employer offers its employees for old-age, occupational disability and survivor insurance. It can be financed by the employee, the employer or both together*.

pension fund

In a pension fund, the employer takes out annuity insurance for the life of his employee. This is legally independent and is supported by one or more companies.

pension funds

In contrast to the pension fund, a pension fund is an independent pension institution that is independent of the employee's company and provides the pension benefits, and is subject to state insurance supervision. Separate pension plans regulate the bAV for one or more employer companies. The employer transfers the contributions to the pension fund. These were previously financed by employers and employees in one of 3 ways (see *). Pension funds have only been approved for bAV in Germany for around 20 years.
